WICHITA, Kan. - Friends Falcons men's soccer went up against the Warriors of Sterling Saturday afternoon. It was a dominant performance from both sides of the ball for the Falcons. The Falcon defense only let up 3 shot attempts throughout the game and Aron Ponce recorded his first save of the season. Friends was more physical and much faster throughout the whole game and this was a statement win for them to turn their season in the right direction.
Sora Shibata was the leading scorer, scoring 4 goals in this contest with 9 shots. This is tied for the most goals in Falcons history with Juan Zamora who did it in 2021. Andres Michael Zibilia also scored his 5th goal of the season. Finn Kelly had 2 assists and Jose Quiel joined with 2 as well. The Falcons offense recorded 19 shots in the first half, while allowing 0 shots for the Warriors. The first half would end up being 5-0 in favor of the Falcons.
The Falcons would keep up the pressure in the 2nd half scoring 4 more goals. Shibata scored in the 65th minute to capture his Friends University record of 4 goals in one game. Falcons kept their foot on the gas ever since the kick off and scored their last goal in the 84th minute. The last time Friends University scored over 9 goals was in 2012 with a conference matchup against Southwestern where the Falcons would win 10-1 in that contest.
This game showed signs of the Falcons moving in the right direction nearing the end of the season. The offense finally exploded which was much needed for the team chemistry. The Falcons (2-9-1) KCAC (2-4-1) will travel to Missouri for their next contest against the Avila Eagles on Wednesday October 15th. Kick off will be at 2:30 PM
