Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falcons record their highest scoring KCAC game in five years with 110-88 thumping of Braves

Ottawa, Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons recorded their highest scoring conference game in nearly five years with an emphatic 110-88 victory at the Ottawa University Braves today (Jan. 4) in Ottawa, Kan.  The Falcons last scored that much in a KCAC game in a 112-104 win at Sterling College on Jan. 15, 2020.

The win pushes the Falcons into a tie with Ottawa for third place in the KCAC at 6-2 in the league.

With the score tied at 11-11, a three by Cahlese Lee got the Falcons going and started a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to give Friends control.

A trey from Dannon Lundy stretched the lead as high as 17 in the opening half and the Falcons were still up 15 following a late three by Collin Maclin.  But consecutive threes by PJ Twa brought Ottawa within 53-44 at the break.

The Falcons continued their blistering offensive pace in the second half, opening with a bucket from KJ Spiller and a three by Josh Price to lead 58-46 less than a minute after halftime.

After the Braves used a 9-2 spurt cut a 14-point lead in half, a pair of threes by Lee along with a trey each from Randy Woolf, Jr. and Kee'on Hutton fueled a 16-4 burst that put the Falcons in front 86-67 at the 8:10 mark of the second half.

The Falcons never let up from there, getting another three by Lee to go up by 24 with 3:14 left before building the edge to a game-high 26 points when a steal and layup from Owen Evans made it 110-84.

"We're always happy to go on the road and leave with a win," said Friends men's basketball head coach Phil McClintock, who served an eight-year tenure as associate head coach at Ottawa prior to arriving at Friends last season. "I'm proud of the energy and effort our guys displayed today. We shot the ball really well, which makes it a lot easier to win games, especially against good teams on the road. We're looking forward to getting back in the Garvey Wednesday."

Spiller led five Falcons in double-figures with 22 points and Lee scored 17, hitting 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and securing a team-high seven rebounds. Collin Maclin added 15 points, while Hutton and Ring Deng each chipped in with 12 points. Woolf, Jr. dished out a team-leading six assists and produced three steals.

Jayden Hibbitt led the Braves with 27 points and Najee Jones scored 18 and recorded a team-high 10 assists. Keith Robinson added 16 points and Twa also scored in double-figures with 10 points for Ottawa.

The Falcons were efficient offensively from outset, shooting a blistering 62.7 percent (42-of-67) from the field and 50 percent (13-of-26) from three-point distance.

Game Notes:
- The Falcons will look to keep rolling with an upcoming three-game homestand, starting Wednesday night (Jan. 8) at 8 pm vs. Sterling College inside the Garvey Center.
