Soccer Falcons defeat the undefeated Valor 2-1

Wichita, Kan. - The Falcons pulled off a thrilling comeback victory over the undefeated Evangel Valor, winning 2-1 in a chippy match on Wednesday night. Despite an early goal from Evangel, the Falcons rallied in the second half, scoring twice to secure their second win of the season.

The game started with Evangel taking the lead in the 31st minute. Rem Harmsworth's well-placed shot found the back of the net off an assist from Jacob Chapman, giving Evangel a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

Friends came out strong in the second half, applying consistent pressure on Evangel's defense. Their efforts were rewarded in the 59th minute when Caique Pereira equalized with a powerful strike, assisted by Eddy Rachedi. Just 14 minutes later, Carlos Vidrio delivered the game-winning goal, assisted by Noah Gonzales, putting Friends University ahead 2-1.

Evangel's goalkeeper, Davide Marzoli, made 6 saves in the game, and Arturo Pombo-Palomero had a solid outing for Friends with 3 saves, holding off Evangel's attempts to level the score in the final minutes.

The Falcons outshot the Valor 16 to 4. They also led in corner kicks with 3 compared to Evangel's 0.

Several cautions handed out tonight. Evangel's Moritz Hofmeyer received a yellow card as well as the Friends bench and Erik Huerta being charged a yellow.

With this victory, Friends University improves to 2-1 in conference play, while Evangel falls to 2-1.

Men's Soccer Falcons will travel to North Newton, Kansas to face the Bethel Threshers on Saturday, September 28th!
