WICHITA, Kan. – The (RV) Briar Cliff University Chargers struck for two second half scores to snap a 1-1 gridlock at the half and win 3-1 over the Friends University Falcons today (Aug. 24) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The Chargers took the lead less than 10 minutes into the contest when Andrew Buchanan scored off a deflection from Hugo Mariage.
Eddy Rachedi then took a feed from Yushin Kitada and scored on a pin-point shot into the left side of the net to pull the Falcons even at the 19:28 mark.
But the second half belonged to Briar Cliff, with Buchanan hitting a penalty kick in the 63rd minute and then assisting on a goal by Filip Peters to put the match away.
Newcomer Jose Quiel led the Falcons with four shots, who were outshot 13-11 overall and 6-4 on-goal.
In his first career start in the net, Aron Ponce made three saves with three goals allowed for Friends (0-2). Phillip Haenel also recorded three stops and allowed one score for the Chargers (1-2).
The Falcons will now host William Penn University next Sunday afternoon (Sept. 1) at 1 pm.
