Softball Falcons season ends with 1-0 setback to (RV) LSU-Alexandria in NAIA Opening Round

Chickasha, Okla. – The Friends University Falcons again came out on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel in an elimination game in the NAIA Opening Round, this time a 1-0 setback to the LSU-Alexandria Generals today (May 14) in Chickasha, Okla.

After the Falcons stranded runners at the corners in the fifth, the Generals took advantage and broke through when leading hitter Haley Fontenot singled with one out and scored what would be the game's only run on a single from Madi Baker.

That proved to be enough for the Generals to pull out the win behind a stellar pitching performance from Haley Primrose. Primrose blanked the Falcons on five hits, with two strikeouts and a pair of walks over seven innings.

Riley Wertz nearly matched her, giving up just one run while also allowing five hits with three strikeouts and two walks during her six innings in the circle. The KCAC Newcomer of the Year, Wertz also pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the third to keep the game scoreless.

Playing in her final game as a Falcon, Fallyn Marshall delivered three hits in three at-bats from the leadoff spot.

Baker finished 2-of-3 for LSU-Alexandria (37-13), who remains alive to face Baker University in another elimination game tomorrow (May 15) at 1:30 pm.

The Falcons (34-19) end their season with their third NAIA Opening Round appearance in the past six seasons under head coach Suzanne Unruh.

"Looking over the season as a whole, it's impressive and has been an amazing ride with this group of girls!" said Unruh. "We had leadership and players that coaches dream about in their program, and I'm proud to be their coach. I wish our offense could have stayed strong these past few weeks in the postseason, we just couldn't come up with that timely hit, as our defense was exceptional. We will come back in August and work endlessly on making it back to a national opening round!"
