Softball Falcons emphatically sweep Oklahoma Wesleyan

WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons looked as good as they have all season in posting a convincing sweep of the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles, winning by scores of 8-1 and 8-0 in KCAC action today (Apr. 9) at Two Rivers Youth Complex.

Carolyn Dallimore was hot at the plate the entire day and drove in three runs to fuel the Falcons' opening game victory, starting with an RBI double in the first inning that plated Fallyn Marshall.

The Falcons scored another run in the first frame and continued to add on with a two-run double by Makenna Mitchell and a two-run single from Dallimore for a commanding 6-0 lead in the fourth.

After the Eagles got on the board in the fifth, Riley Wertz helped her own cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth to help finish off the win.

Marshall sparked Friends with three hits and a pair of stolen bases at the top of the lineup, with the Falcons getting two hits each from Dallimore, Becca Dunn, Wertz and Laila Spracklen in the opening game victory.

Wertz earned her 10th win in her first season as a Falcons with one run allowed, six strikeouts and six walks across seven innings.

The Falcons then finished off the sweep behind a shutout from Laila Spracklen. Spracklen blanked the Eagles on just two hits and five strikeouts in five innings in the circle.

Two more hits and three runs from Dallimore fueled the second game attack.

Dunn hit a sacrifice fly in the first to put the Falcons in front and Dallimore scored on a two-run single by Wertz later in the inning and then on a two-run single by Vanessa Sigala in the third that gave the Falcons a 5-0 edge.

Spracklen would put an exclamation point on the third frame with a two-run double before Dallimore scored her third run of the game in the fourth to give the Falcons the run-rule victory.

Priscilla Mora also scored two runs for the Falcons in the nightcap win.

"It sure was great to watch our team play like we've been talking about all spring!" said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh. "The talent is there for sure and the confidence has been building, maybe tonight's sweep of a good OKWU team will take us on a big run!"

The Falcons will next host Sterling College for Senior Day Saturday afternoon (Apr. 13) starting at 1 pm. The Senior Day ceremony will take place between the first and second game.
