WICHITA, Kan. – The second day of the 2024 Friends University Outdoor Track & Field Spring Invitational has reached its conclusion, and the Falcon Race Walkers are once again at the center of the action.
Pablo Sanz-Rillo and Gage Carr, both with NAIA All-America awards to their name, will be competing for that honor once again at the national meet after hitting NAIA standards in the Men's 5000m Race Walk.
Sanz-Rillo won the event with a massive NAIA A standard time of 22:59:06, followed by Carr in the third spot with an NAIA B standard mark of 25:21.73.
Competing in his first career outdoor 5000m Race Walk event, Connor Prestenbach (28:07.03) finished in fourth place for the Falcons.
The Race Walkers weren't the only national qualifiers, as Damon Scott produced his first career NAIA B standard with a massive PR of 7.29m to finish third overall. Mikkel Tarver also hit his Long Jump PR to finish within the top five and Isaiah Sanders came in 10th with a mark of 6.80m.
On the women's side, Aneesa Sheppard finished a team-leading 13th with a big PR of 5.28m in the Long Jump. Anya Walton (21st, 4.91m), Tiara Neymour (26th, 4.75m, first career LJ) and Amani Bradsher (30th, 4.68m) also participated in the Women's Long Jump.
In the Men's Decathlon, Carter Giittinger came away with a solid runner-up finish with 6059 points after winning the 110m Hurdle event (15.82) and recording second-place showings in the 100 meter run (11.38), the 400 meters (52.58) and the Discus Throw (31.75m).
Braeden Harris also competed in the Decathlon and accumulated 5452 points, including winning the 100 meter race (11.26) to finish in the sixth spot.
Other day two highlights included Austin Hoyt (49.29m) recording a top-three result in just his second career Javelin event, while Lidia DiLollo (34.01m) posted a fifth-place finish in her first career Javelin throw as a Falcon.
