York, Neb. – The Friends University Falcons fell in a pitcher's duel 2-1 in the first game and then lost 9-4 in KCAC action at the York University Panthers today (Apr. 5) in York, Neb.

The Falcons' Daniel Jaime and Panthers' Ian Heck matched each other inning for inning through the first eight frames.

But in a 1-1 gridlock in the bottom of the ninth, Cameron Reeve finished off a 4-4 afternoon with a game-winning, two out single that scored Connor Larson.

Earlier in the game, Carlos Rodriguez pulled the Falcons even with his sixth home run of the season in the sixth inning. Rodriguez finished with two hits in the opening tilt.

Jaime was stout through his eight innings of work, striking out a season-high tying eight batters with just one run allowed.

Heck was also effective for York with 11 strikeouts and giving up just one run during his eight frames. James Mockry pitched a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to be credited with the win for the Panthers.

Both teams used the long ball in the nightcap, but it was the Panthers with the final statement.

With the game tied at 4-4, Trevor Peterson hit a solo homer to put the Panthers on top in bottom of the sixth.

That was the first of three homers the Panthers hit during the frame, as Secundino Morales hit a three-run home run that was followed by Cesar Galvan's second homer of the game to create the final five-run margin for York.

Galvan had put the Panthers up first with a two-run homer in the first before an RBI single by Reeve made it 3-0 in the second inning.

It was then the Falcons turn to use the long ball, with DJ Killion hitting a solo homer and Sam Engberg launching a two-run blast to tie the score at 3-3 in the fifth.

The Panthers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth to go back on top, but Zeke Henson managed to score on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to tie the score again.

Henson had two hits in the second game for the Falcons, while Morales and Galvan each drove in three runs for York.

Brett Black started the second game for Friends (24-15, 15-12 KCAC), going 5.1 innings and allowing four earned runs with four strikeouts.

James McCown got the win for York (16-19, 8-14 KCAC) by lasting six innings with seven strikeouts, four walks and four runs allowed.

The Falcons and Panthers will wrap up the series with a single game tomorrow (Apr. 6) at noon.
