WICHITA, Kan. – The (RV) Friends University Falcons got two RBIs from five different players to back up a stout pitching performance from Daniel Jaime in routing the Bethany College Swedes 13-0 in the opening tilt of a three-game series today (Mar. 15) at West Side Athletic Field.
The Falcons are now 19-8 overall and 10-5 in the KCAC, with head coach Adam Neisius now just three wins away from career win number 600.
Nijai Armbrister gave Friends immediate control with an RBI single in the first inning before an RBI double by Caleb Coats in the second and a massive two-run blast by Zeke Henson in the third made it 4-0.
The floodgates then opened wide in the fourth, with a two-run single by Buster Hardman followed up by two-run doubles from Carlos Rodriguez and Niquan Benjamin.
Benjamin then scored on a single by DJ Killion before a two-run double by Sam Engberg capped a nine-run frame and helped the Falcons end the game on the run rule.
The 13 runs was 12 more than Jaime needed, who shut out the Swedes (6-18, 3-11 KCAC) and struck out seven while allowing just one hit during his seven innings on the mound.
Rodriguez, Henson and Killion each had two hits for the Falcons, with Killion, Coats, Hardman and Spencer Davidson each scoring two runs.
The Falcons and Swedes will wrap up the weekend set with a doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 16) at noon.
