Women’s Basketball Falcons fall at Tabor in KCAC showdown

Hillsboro, Kan. – In a matchup of two of the KCAC's top three teams, the Tabor College Bluejays won 61-45 to snap the Friends University Falcons' winning streak at 12 games tonight (Feb. 17) in Hillsboro, Kan.

The loss drops the Falcons to 20-6 overall and into the third spot in the KCAC at 17-3.

The Falcons took an early 7-2 lead, but the Bluejays tightened up and outscored the Falcons 15-3 during the final 6:15 of the first quarter to lead by seven.

Leading by double-figures midway through the second quarter, the Bluejays got consecutive threes from Miyah McGee and Lillie Veer to push the lead up to 30-14.

Jumpers from Sadie Hopman and Taylor Jackson helped the Falcons come within 30-19 at the break.

It remained an 11-point lead for Tabor heading to the fourth quarter before the Bluejays scored nine of the period's first 13 points to expand the edge up to 16 at 53-37 with 7:13 left.

That proved to be all the cushion the Bluejays needed to close out the win.

Taylor Jackson led the Falcons with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Rayland Garner's double-double of 12 points and 11 boards. Lauryn McIver also scored in double-figures with 10 points for Friends.

Veer paced the Bluejays with 12 points, while Brooke Berlin and Kloe Bowin each had a team-high six rebounds. Madie McCoy recorded a game-high six assists for Tabor (22-14 19-1 KCAC).

In a matchup of the league's top two defensive teams, it was the Bluejays coming out on top by holding the Falcons more than 29 points below their season average.

The Falcons managed to outrebound the Bluejays 44-34, but were hurt by 19 turnovers on the night.

Friends has two games left in the regular season, starting with a road tilt Wednesday evening (Feb. 21) at York University before hosting Avila University for Senior Day (Feb. 24) at 1 pm inside the Garvey Center.
