Hillsboro, Kan. – The Tabor College Bluejays used a late first half run to take control and went on to a 100-81 win over the Friends University Falcons in a KCAC matchup tonight (Feb. 17) in Hillsboro, Kan.
The Falcons led early and still trailed by just three at 36-33 when the Bluejays made their move, ending the first half on an 11-1 run over the final 2:12 to lead 47-34 at the break.
Friends clawed as close as eight on multiple occasions in the second half, including scoring the first five points after halftime, but each time the Bluejays had an answer to maintain command.
With the deficit hanging at 10, Jack Voth hit two threes to spark a 15-6 burst that stretched the lead up to 19 at 78-59 at the 7:47 mark.
The Bluejays then twice increased the lead to a game-high 26 points, with the final time coming with 2:51 remaining.
Tim Barbieri scored 19 points to equal his season-high scoring output, followed by KJ Spiller with 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Al Emerllahu recorded a game-high three steals for the Falcons.
Thatcher McClure led five Bluejays in double-figure scoring with 19 points off the bench while tying for team-high honors with eight boards. James Aboaba scored 18 and Voth finished with 17 points for Tabor.
The Bluejays shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field and held a 43-31 edge in rebounding overall.
Next up for the Falcons is a road matchup at York University Wednesday night (Feb. 21) at 8 pm in York, Neb. After that, the Falcons will wrap up the season at home vs. Avila University for Senior Day next Saturday (Feb. 24) at 3 pm inside the Garvey Center.
