WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Powerlifting Falcons hosted the Friends Open today (Feb. 10) on campus in the Garvey Multipurpose Room. The meet had about 30 lifters, three of which were Friends University student-athletes.
Recent transfer Christian Landeros qualified for Nationals in Atlanta, GA in the 140kg+ with a perfect meet and a 687.5kg/1515lbs total.
Sophomore Makayla Gonzales also qualified for Nationals in her second weight class as she cut down to the 48kg/105lbs weight class. After securing the bid to the National Meet, she broke the state record on deadlift two times, ending with a 264lb deadlift.
Senior Stephen Acosta made his comeback to the platform after tearing his pec during football season. Acosta is already qualified for Nationals and will be competing in Atlanta in the 140kg weight class.
The squad also honored the senior class during intermission. Seniors recognized were:

On a side note, the Falcons raised just over $3000 for their upcoming trip to Georgia.
The Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals are set for Apr. 11-14 in Atlanta, Ga.
