Big fourth quarter lifts Women’s Basketball Falcons to win over North Texas at Dallas

Ft. Worth, Texas. – Down by one heading to the final quarter, the Friends University Falcons outscored the University of North Texas at Dallas Trailblazers 25-9 and came away with a 67-52 victory this evening (Nov. 8) at the Texas Wesleyan Classic.

Lauryn McIver and Kori Babcock each scored five points to fuel a run of 12 straight points to begin the fourth quarter to give the Falcon an 11-point edge.

After a three by Skye Dugan temporarily halted the run, a three-point play and layup by Abigail Barr sparked a 7-0 spurt that stretched the lead to 15 at the 2:27 mark and the Falcons were never threatened again.

A similar occurrence happened in the first half, as the Falcons trailed by 10 after one quarter but used a 12-0 spurt behind two three-pointers by Babcock and consecutive layups from Taylor Jackson to turn a 10-point deficit into a two-point edge.

The Trailblazers then got two free throws from De'Asia Johnson to tie the score at 27-27 at the break.

Friends built a six-point lead in the third, but the Trailblazers scored seven straight to regain the lead and they carried a 43-42 lead into the final period.

Jackson led the Falcons with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists, with McIver finishing with 16 points. Babcock and Barr each chipped in with 11 points for Friends (2-2).

Dugan paced the Trailblazers (0-1) with 18 points and Johnson added 11. Eryka Patton pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Falcons outshot the Trailblazers 46.6 percent to 29.3 percent and also held a commanding 43-28 advantage on the glass.
