Larosee lifts Women’s Soccer Falcons into KCAC semifinal round

WICHITA, Kan. – Trailing 1-0 and with their season on the line in the KCAC quarterfinal round, the Friends University Falcons had the luxury of turning to their modern-era career goal leader Keily Larosee, who answered the bell with two goals to lift the Falcons to a 2-1 victory over the University of Saint Mary Spires this evening (Nov. 5) at Adair-Austin Stadium.

The fourth-seeded Falcons will now face the top-seeded and No. 7-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles in the conference semifinals Friday (Nov. 8) at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita.

Through a mostly scoreless first half, the Spires got on the board with a goal by Rebecca Lord at the 40:41 mark.

But 12 minutes into the second half, Larosee blasted in a beautiful goal past KCAC saves leader Marisol Vargas and into the back right corner of the net to tie the score.

Then with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Larosee struck again with the game-winning tally to put the Falcons over the top.

Nia Baker then helped the Falcons preserve the victory with a big save on a shot attempt by Sadie Dipman-Hayward at the 87:00 mark.

The Falcons (13-5-1) controlled the tempo, outshooting the Spires 16-3 overall and 8-2 on-goal.

Vargas finished with six saves for Saint Mary, who finishes their season at 10-8-1.

The Falcons' semifinal matchup vs. OKWU Friday will kick off at 5 pm.
