Box Score Lindsborg, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons won three consecutive sets after dropping the first to notch a 3-1 victory at the Bethany College Swedes in KCAC action today (Nov. 2) in Lindsborg, Kan. The win moves the Falcons above .500 on the season at 15-14.
The Falcons got off to a slow start, dropping the first set 25-15 before kills from Samantha Johnson and Sofia Mekelburg helped Friends pull out a 25-22 second set win.
The third set saw the Falcons get hot down the stretch, outscoring the Swedes 8-1 to record their own 25-15 win and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Leading 11-8 in the fourth, the Falcons went on a run behind kills from Gabriella Lujan, Quinn Curran, Mekelburg and Sydney Lentz to gain some separation.
Another kill by Lentz then finished off the set and the match 25-20 for Friends.
The Falcons (15-14, 4-8 KCAC) got double-digit kills from Lentz (15), Mekelburg (13), Johnson (11) and Lujan (10) for a balanced offensive attack. Facilitating the offensive success was Curran, who handed out 50 assists in the four-set victory. Antonia Perier led the Falcons with 25 digs, while Tammy Melendez (14) and Saidy Gonzalez (10) also had double-figure digs.
Ashlynn Gehring led the Swedes with nine kills and Mandy Knipp had 20 assists. Michelle Acevedo Ortiz had a team-high 20 digs for Bethany.
The Falcons will next wrap up the regular season at home next Saturday night (Nov. 9) vs. Tabor College inside the Garvey Center.
