Men’s Basketball Falcons upend Haskell 73-61 to improve to 3-1

Lawrence, Kan.KJ Spiller put in a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Friends University Falcons to a 73-61 victory at the Haskell Indian Nations University Indians tonight (Nov. 9) in Lawrence, Kan. The Falcons are now 3-1 on the season ahead of next Saturday's KCAC opener at Evangel University.

The Falcons led for all but 19 seconds, grabbing the lead for good at 4-3 following a Randy Woolf, Jr. layup.

A three by Cahlese Lee gave the Falcons breathing room at 20-11 and Friends took a 33-27 lead into the break.

Friends methodically maintained the lead in the second half and grabbed their first double-digit advantage when a layup by Ring Deng made it 56-45 with 8:29 left in the game.

The Falcons never let the lead slip below seven from that point and stretched the lead as high as 69-56 on a layup by Kee'on Hutton at the 1:30 mark.

Spiller was extremely efficient in scoring his 22 points, hitting 8-of-9 from the field and also recording three assists and a pair of steals.

Hutton added 18 points and Woolf, Jr. scored 11 for the Falcons.

Preston Olney led Haskell with 14 points and Nehemiah Boykins scored 13. DK Middleton and Bryan Strom each scored 11, with Middleton pacing Haskell with seven boards.

The Falcons shot a blistering 61 percent (25-of-41), outshooting Haskell by nearly 18 percent (43.1 percent).

Friends was especially dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Indians by a whopping 40-14.

The Falcons' KCAC opening tilt at Evangel University Saturday (Nov. 16) is set for 2 pm in Springfield, Mo.
