KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Friends University Falcons came away with a dominant 5-0 victory over the Avila University Eagles in a KCAC matchup today (Oct. 31) in Kansas City, Mo.
The win moves the Falcons above the .500 mark in the KCAC at 5-4-3, with a 5-7-5 overall record.
A goal by Caique Pereira in the 25th minute of the match broke a scoreless tie and the Falcons proceeded to explode for four goals in the second half, including an own goal by Avila at the 57:54 mark.
Pedro Matas scored to make it 3-0 at the 65:28 mark before Jose Quiel put in his team-leading ninth goal of the season just 13 seconds later.
Eddy Rachedi then closed out the big win for the Falcons with a goal in the 71st minute.
Friends held a 14-7 advantage in shot attempts and a 9-4 edge on-goal.
Stryker Kelly made one save in nearly 70 minutes at goalkeeper before giving way to Arturo Pombo-Palomero for the final 20:06. Pombo-Palomero made three stops during his time in the net.
Naguib Nassir had four saves and five goals allowed for Avila (3-13-0, 3-9-0 KCAC).
The Falcons will now turn around and wrap up the regular season tomorrow night (Nov. 1) at home vs. Bethany College. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium and was moved up to tomorrow due to expected inclement weather in the Wichita area on Saturday.
