WICHITA, Kan. – The Mid-America Christian University Evangels broke a scoreless tie with a goal early in the second half and that was all they needed to escape with a 1-0 win tonight (Aug. 28) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The Falcons had an opportunity to break out on top in the first half, but MACU goalkeeper Rachel Torres made a great diving stop to turn away a penalty kick attempt by Hanon Nakagami.
MACU then put in the only goal of the night when Madison Chavez capitalized on a scrum inside the box and found the back of the net just over two minutes into the second half.
Scoring opportunities for both teams were limited, as the Evangels outshot the Falcons 13-6 overall, but the shots-on-goal were at just 2-2.
Nia Baker made one save for the Falcons (0-2-1), with Torres stopping both shots-on-goal she faced for MACU (3-0).
The Falcons will next be in the Hawkeye state for a pair of matches this weekend, starting on Friday night (Sept 1) at Dordt University. Kickoff is set for 7:15 pm in Sioux Center, Iowa. Friends will then turnaround and play Northwestern College Saturday night (Sept. 2) at 6 pm in Orange City, Iowa.
