WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons were competitive much of the night, but eventually succumbed to the (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles 3-0 in KCAC action tonight (Oct. 4) inside the Garvey Center.
Three kills each from Grace McClintock and Abigail Ellermann along with a pair of kills by Payton Robbins helped the Falcons stay close at 15-12 in the first set.
The Eagles then took command, using an 8-3 burst to open up a 23-15 lead before closing out the opening set 25-16.
Friends bounced back early in the next set, using kills from McClintock, Ellermann and McKenzi Shurley to take an early 6-2 lead.
But the Eagles got going behind two kills from both Daisy Scott and Makaila Keith to score nine straight points and lead by five.
The Falcons refused to go away and stayed within striking distance, but kills from Reese Parris and Claira Warren gave OKWU the set 25-19 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
OKWU never let up in the third set, jumping out to a 7-2 edge on the way to a dominating 25-11 win to finish out the match.
McClintock (eight kills) and Emmah Sultz (14 assists) led the Falcons offensively, with Antonia Perier delivering a solid effort with 11 digs.
The Eagles got a match-high 16 kills from Evelyn Rohrberg and Sydney Collins had a match-high 31 assists. Andjela Micunovic paced OKWU with 11 digs on the night.
Up next for the Falcons is a tri-match at Sterling College, starting at 1 pm against Sterling and then 3 pm vs. USAO.
