WICHITA, Kan. – Playing in front of the Garvey Center home crowd for the first time in her career, it didn't take long for junior guard Kori Babcock to make her presence felt in dropping 30 points and nailing a single-game record tying (modern-era) eight threes in the Friends University Falcons home opening 90-31 rout of the Barclay College Bears tonight (Oct. 31) on Halloween that featured a boisterous crowd and a costume contest at halftime.

The 31 points allowed are the fewest the Falcons have allowed the opposition since winning 46-30 at Southwestern Christian University in 2012.

Babcock caught fire early, nailing half of her three-point total within the first half of the opening quarter to spark an 18-2 run to begin the game.

The Falcons led 24-7 at the conclusion of the first quarter and scored the first nine points of the second period to expand the lead up to 26 points.

A three-point play by Rayland Garner made it a 30-point bulge while another three by Babock along with treys from Trinity Johnson and Ellie Munds sparked a 13-2 close to the half to balloon the Falcon lead up to 51-13 at the break.

The only drama in the second half was if Babcock would set a new mark and the Thayer, Kan. native nailed the record-tying triple with 5:54 left in the game that made it 86-27.

Babcock's eight threes also helped the Falcons hit 15 treys overall to tie the program's team single-game three-point record (modern-era).

"What a great atmosphere in the Garvey Center tonight!" said Friends women's basketball head coach Dean Jaderston. "A big thank you to all the students and grandad who turned out. We took a good step tonight as a team. Any time you get over two thirds of your baskets off assists you know you're moving the ball pretty well. It's also nice to know we've got shooters like Kori who can stretch the floor!"

Rayland Garner shot 6-of-11 and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe to score 17 points with five rebounds, while Taylor Jackson played her typical, steady defense with five blocks and 15 rebounds (11 defensive).

A couple of other newcomers also had nice games for the Falcons, with Lauryn McIver scoring 10 points and posting six assists, five boards and four steals, while Johnson hit three shots from the perimeter and scored 11 along with three thefts.

Kandis Hall led the Bears with seven points and Jazzy Kettles had a team-high eight rebounds.

The Falcons really heated up in the second to shoot 55.2 percent (16-of-29) in the second half to finish with a 45.9 percent (34-of-74) overall clip from the floor. Friends also distributed the ball well, recording 24 assists on those 34 made field goals.

Up next, the Falcons will have a high-octane exhibition game NCAA D-I Oral Roberts University on Nov. 9 in Tulsa, Okla. Friends will then play at Oklahoma City University on Nov. 11 before opening KCAC action on Nov. 15 at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan.
