Volleyball Falcons fall to No. 21 Ottawa

WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 21-ranked Ottawa University Braves won 3-0 over the Friends University Falcons in KCAC action tonight (Oct. 18) inside the Garvey Center.

The Falcons played well in the early going of the first two sets, with three kills from Grace McClintock in the opening stanza helping Friends take a quick 4-3 lead.

Lillian Holden then took over for the Braves, hitting five kills to spark a 10-1 burst for a 13-5 lead. Ottawa maintained control and won the first set 25-9.

Friends again started strong in the second set, getting two kills each from McClintock and McKenzi Shurley for a 9-6 edge.

But the Braves again had the answer, this time with Radaisy Valdez putting in three kills to lead a 7-2 spurt that put Ottawa up 13-11.

After a kill by McClintock temporarily halted the run, the Braves scored seven of the next eight points to take command and went on to a 25-16 win in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Braves wasted no time taking charge with a quick 6-1 lead before closing out the win 25-15.

McClintock led the Falcons (8-20, 1-8 KCAC) with nine kills and Zoey Tauanu'u had a team-high 12 assists. Antonia Perier, coming off a career-high 51 digs vs. York University that netted her KCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, again recorded a team-leading 20 digs.

Holden paced the Braves (17-8, 6-1 KCAC) with 15 kills and Valdez had 10 kills. Ryleigh Sander (20 assists) and Madison Brauner (19 assists) were the top distributors for Ottawa, while Kennedi Wyrick (18 digs) and Jadore Hayes (17 digs) led the defensive effort.

The Falcons will next play at (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday morning (Oct. 21) at 11 am in Salina, Kan.
