Winfield, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons fell 3-0 in KCAC action tonight (Oct. 11) at the Southwestern College Builders in Winfield, Kan.
The Falcons stayed close in the first set, taking a 19-18 lead on three consecutive kills by Grace McClintock.
But the Builders scored five of the final seven points to win the opening set 25-21 and take the lead in the match.
After the Builders controlled the second set to win 25-17, the Falcons regrouped and hung tight throughout the third and took late leads of 20-19 and 21-20 on the strength of back-to-back kills from Nicole Robinson.
With the set even at 23-23, the Builders put the match away behind kills from Haley Shaw and KaSandra Lyons.
McClintock finished with a team-high 13 kills for the Falcons, just one shy of her career-high. Zoey Tauanu'u (22 assists) and Emmah Sultz (16 assists) were the top distributors for Friends, while Antonia Perier had a match-high 29 digs. Greely Munroe (15 digs) and Anicia Tyson-Salas (11 digs) also reached double-figure digs.
The Builders were led by nine kills from Daci Stover, 18 assists from Shaw and 23 digs by Sophie Wicker.
The Falcons will next return home and host York University Saturday evening (Oct. 14) at 5 pm inside the Garvey Center.
